Banco de Seguros del Estado (BSE) is a state-owned insurance company in Uruguay, a leader in the country with over 100 years in the market.

“Rector” is the management system for all the company’s customer policies. The billing universe of these policies involves all branches and products offered by each branch (274 combinations), in different currencies.

Billing and Policy system

Scope

The objective of the project was to test the billing processes to verify their correct behavior, following the changes introduced for the development of the FPAP (paper invoice collection) component and the adjustments related to billing incidents detected in the production environment.

As an additional objective, the creation of a set of baseline tests for billing was proposed, which is maintained as an asset for BSE.

The project planning was done in collaboration with BSE, coordinating the different activities and monitoring them.

As a testing strategy, for interactive billing, an initial coverage was defined with the most critical branches (life, vehicles, work accidents, AFAP, among others), where the tests involve the issuance and life cycle of policies. For batch billing, parallels were performed, comparing the results obtained without the introduced changes in the version to be tested and then another execution with the changes.

The test coverage was analyzed and designed in collaboration with BSE, involving different areas of the bank.

The verification of batch billing was done through SQL queries, backing up the results of each execution.

In addition, the different interactive tests were coordinated, where the bank’s functional team issued and billed the policies, and then the accounting and tax advisory area verified the generated invoices. The tasks were managed using the Jira tool.

Technologies and Tools

  • Oracle database
  • Oracle Forms
  • PL/SQL
  • JIRA

Results

  • Tests were executed with over 250,000 monthly invoices for solution validation, detecting errors and inconsistencies before going into production.
  • A set of tests with complete coverage of the system's use cases was created, which is part of the system's regression testing for maintenance and evolution.
